Don’t Miss Out on Heat Pump Tax Credits

March 1, 2024

Tax season is upon us! While that isn’t usually a good thing, it doesn’t have to be a bad thing, either. If you installed an air source heat pump system in your home in 2023, you might be eligible for a tax credit!

Save up to $2000 when you upgrade to energy-efficient heat pump technology!

Current energy efficient home improvement credits allow Americans to claim up to 30% of project costs, up to $2000. These credits can be combined with credits up to $1,200 for other qualified upgrades made in one tax year.

Both ducted and ductless mini split heat pump systems apply, as long as the heat pump has earned an Energy Star label and falls under the following eligibility requirements:

  • ·Ducted systems must have a heat pump designated as ENERGY STAR Cold Climate that has an EER2 > 10.
  • Ductless system heat pumps must be ENERGY STAR Cold Climate heat pumps with SEER2 > 16, EER2 > 9, and HSPF2 > 9.5.

While these numbers might look confusing, they are all ratings which refer to the efficiency of a heat pump. The efficiency of a system can also depend on the size of your home, your current ductwork, and other variables.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 enables Americans to enhance the energy efficiency of our homes and buildings. These federal tax credits and deductions can reduce energy costs and demand while making cleaner energy sources more prevalent.

When you take advantage of federal tax credits and deductions, you’re not only saving money, you’re helping the United States transition to cleaner energy sources.
